Burton Joyce Primary School encourages healthy happy children. As part of that policy we prefer our children to walk as far as is practically possible to school. This helps us once the child is in school in the mornings they are alert,  active and have shaken off the sleepiness of the night.

Individual circumstances sometimes prevent this, so we have adopted a range of measures in association with Nottingham County Council to help assist parents in their trips to school. In doing this we are also helping reduce congestion around the school at busy times and make the area safer.  The reduction  in  traffic will also reduce our children's carbon footprint and pollution in and around the area of the school

This is an official scheme by the Government and the NCC which can benefit both Parents and children. It involves volunteer parents or guardians for one or two days a week (to suit) to walk with the children to or from  school in an organized manner. Most parents do this every day and occasionally help out with friends children.

 

We do receive complaints from local residents about inconsiderate parking across  their driveways making it difficult to get in or out. Also parking on grass verges particularly near the bend at Padleys lane causes many complaints and is dangerous to small children whose view is blocked to the left as they cross the road.  Drop offs on the yellow hatch areas also restricts vision of children when crossing nearby and is precisely why we have the lines painted on in these areas to prevent parking even for a limited time.

If you have to transport your child by car, we have made arrangements with Burton Joyce Co Op and The Cross Keys Pub on Main Street to allow the use of their car parks during school drop off and collection times. This helps us reduce congestion around the two school entrances and gives you child a few minutes of walking to shake of their sleepy eyes

Text Box: Volunteers are given training by Notts County Council and route risk assessments are carried out to provide (together with CRA checks) safe environments for the walks to school. If you think you can help and routinely walk a route that other children and parents do– then please contact the office for more information.
