BURTON JOYCE NEWS

JANUARY 2010

1. Congratulations!

Some of our pupils recently entered a ‘Young Writers’ Mini Saga’ competition as part of their Literacy work. Winning entries will be published in a book called ‘Tiny Treasures from the Midlands’ and will be kept at The British Library and further libraries across the UK and Republic of Ireland. We are delighted with the achievements of the pupils below, who have had their sagas chosen for publication:

Quite a list! Well done to all of you!

2. Cake and Comic Sale

On Friday 5th March the children have organised a cake and comic sale to raise money for Cystic Fibrosis. This is a cause that we all feel strongly about, as one of our staff’s grandchild died of the disease recently. If you would like to support the event, please send your child with some money to buy a comic or cake on Friday. 10p will get them something!

3. Lost Property!

We have an impressive collection of lost property, once again! At the end of this half term, any items that haven’t been claimed will be recycled! If your child has mislaid a shoe, coat, sock or pair of pants, please call in and have a look through the boxes; they are located just along from the main reception.

4. Water, Water!

All children are encouraged to bring a plastic bottle to school to have a drink during lessons. Please ensure that only water is put in these bottles, as we have been getting into some sticky messes with children bringing juice etc. Juice can be brought as part of a child’s lunch, but not to drink in the classroom. Thank you for your support with this.

5. Snacks at Playtime

Please remind your child/ren of our snack policy, which is listed below:

Key Stage One-a piece of free fruit is given out to each child during the morning session.

Key Stage Two-children can bring in money to buy an item from the kitchen tuck shop or they can bring in a piece of fruit or cereal bar. Crisps, chocolate and all other snack items are not permitted at break times. Thank you again for your support.
